The Challenge: Rivals, Week 6

Spoiler alert: This post includes details from the elimination round. If you haven’t already seen it, you’ve been warned.

Last night’s episode of The Challenge was pretty eventful – we saw some drama in the love department and the mob finally begins to crumble. We all knew it was coming. Read on for more.

The Challenge – “Catch & Release

It always amazes me how many people on these challenges are afraid of heights – you would think by now they would either have gotten over it or wouldn’t sign up to compete anymore.  With Catch & Release, teammates had to face their fears one more time. One partner was suspended 30 feet above the water. The second partner starts on a platform and had to run and jump to their teammate; grabbing on and swinging across the water. Once they thought they were far enough, they pulled the release. When the team hit the water, they had to swim as fast as possible to the finish buoy. This challenge was all about timing – teams needed to swing far, but not too far.

Jenn and Mandi get to pick the order since they won the last challenge. And even though Mandi has a thing with C.T. and Jenn has a thing with Adam, they put them first to not mess with their alliance. Mandi is hesitant, but Jenn says they have to do it no matter what. So once again, C.T. & Adam go first, setting the pace for the other teams.

True Blood Episode 5: “Me and the Devil”

Warning: This post contains spoilers from last night’s episode.

So much excitement – and lots of great quotes – in one short, little hour! Let’s jump right in!

Tommy Mickens killed his parents

Yikes, right? The episode picked up with Jo Lee attempting to strangle Tommy with a chain. Tommy pretended to pass out and then sneak-attacked his dad, much to his mother’s dismay. After a few minutes of fighting, Tommy got the upper hand and managed to kill both of his parents. He didn’t seem bothered by killing his dad, but he was devastated that he hurt his mom.

He took his parents’ bodies over to Sam’s house for help. I must say, it’s not the best circumstance, but I was glad to see Sam and Tommy being brotherly. I was worried Sam would send him away, but he didn’t. Yay, progress! While driving somewhere to dump the bodies, Sam got pulled over by Andy Bellefleur. Sam told Tommy to get in the back, where he grabbed a shovel and prepared to kill Andy if he opened the van. Andy saw blood on the van door and asked Sam to open the back. Obviously, I was expecting Andy to get attacked by a shovel, but instead Tommy shifted into a gator and scared Andy off.

They got the bodies to a lake and threw them in…where they floated. Creepy. Sam threw marshmallows in and within seconds some gators ate them, along with the bodies. Tommy, still distraught, said he knows he’s going to hell, and Sam attempted to make him feel better by saying his actions were done in self defense. He even told his brother that he’s killed people before too and doesn’t let it weigh him down. I’m excited to see what this new brotherly bond turns into!

Comic-Con: Castle [UPDATED]

As you’ve probably noticed by now, I was very into Comic-Con this year. And while I was beyond excited for multiple panels, the Castle panel was my number one. I’ve been patiently waiting all weekend for someone to upload videos from the panel to YouTube, but so far it hasn’t happened. Someone who was at the panel was streaming it live from their cellphone, so I watched that video, but the quality was not ideal. I guess beggars can’t be choosers though, right?

Based on the TwitCasted video, along with various articles online, I’ve learned some interesting tidbits about what’s coming up on season four.

  • There’s going to be a Ghostbusters-themed Halloween episode
  • The second episode of the season will be super hero-themed
  • Detective Ryan and his fiancee, Jenny, will be getting married this season! This means a bachelor party and a fight over who will be the best man
  • Nathan Fillion said he’s campaigning for juicy roles for Firefly cast members to play
  • We may get to meet Castle’s father!

Comic-Con: Chuck

Since this upcoming season is Chuck’s final one, this is probably the last year the cast will be at Comic-Con together. Zachary Levi has been keeping himself busy all weekend with his Nerd HQ project, which seems to be hugely successful. All ticket sales for the panel discussions they had or are having, which includes people like Nathan Fillion, Seth Green and Jared Padalecki, go to Operation Smile. At Zac’s panel this afternoon, he said he thinks they’ve raised somewhere in the ballpark of $40,000 so far.

At the cast’s actual SDCC panel, Zac got a little emotional when discussing the fans who have kept their show off the chopping block for the last four years. Here’s a video of that moment:

Comic-Con: Dexter

Attention Dexter fans: The season 6 trailer has finally arrived! The cast and crew revealed this little gem at their Comic-Con panel this weekend, and it’ll have to hold us all over until the premiere on October 2.

Dexter Comic-Con

The trailer raises several questions – for me, anyway. Is Colin Hanks’ character bad, and will Dexter have to kill him? Does Dexter have a new love interest? Does Deb find out his secret?

Here’s the trailer if you haven’t already seen it. If you can decipher anything from it, let me know in the comments!

And, if you’re interested in seeing some footage from their panel at Comic-Con, just continue reading. Mos Def (or Mos, as we’re calling him now) even makes an appearance in the crowd.

Birthdays of the Week: July 24-30

I’m a big fan of birthdays. I’ve always been really good at remembering them, which sometimes freaks people out. Chances are if you tell me your birthday I’ll remember it forever. So, it only seems appropriate to add a Birthdays of the Week feature to this blog!

  • Gus Van Sant, 59
  • Kristin Chenoweth, 43
  • Jennifer Lopez, 42
  • Rose Byrne, 32
  • Summer Glau, 30

I want to take this opportunity to plead that if you haven’t already seen Bridesmaids, you really need to! Birthday Girl, Rose Byrne, is in it and does a fantastic job in her role as the dreaded new BFF. Here’s a clip from the movie to motivate you to go see it!

Comic-Con: True Blood

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few days, you’re aware that Comic-Con is going on in San Diego right now. Since I couldn’t be there to experience the awesomeness firsthand, I’ve been keeping up with the action via Twitter, YouTube, Entertainment Weekly and The Hollywood Reporter.

True Blood SDCC

True Blood’s panel was one of the many I was excited for. They released a new trailer for what’s coming up on the rest of season 4 and it did not disappoint. Here it is, if you haven’t seen it yet:

Let’s hug it out, bitch!

All good things must come to an end and beginning this Sunday, the final season of Entourage airs on HBO. For seven mostly fantastic years Vince, E, Johnny, Turtle and Ari have showed us the ups and downs of making it big in Hollywood. Loosely based on Mark Whalberg’s experiences, Entourage quickly became one of the top shows on TV. The fantastic cast and crew have been nominated for numerous accolades including Emmy’s, Golden Globes and SAG Awards.

If you ask most fans of the show, last season went a little off course: there were some highs – the hilarious Scott Caan is welcomed into the entourage, more fantastic guest stars including John Stamos, etc. – and one big low with the demise of Vinny Chase. Overall it was a pretty down year, but we know the boys from Queens will go out in style.

If you’ve seen the trailer, then you know this upcoming season looks amazing; like a throwback to the early years. At the end of the day, this show is about friendship, all of the Hollywood BS is just background. Vince, E, Johnny and Turtle will get passed this as they’ve done with everything else.

Rumors are swirling that a movie is in the works. The entire staff and crew, including Mark Whalberg and Adrien Grenier, have made it known that they want this to go on if possible. On The Today Show the Entourage cast even said they wish it could go on forever. I guess only time will tell…

Be sure to check out the premiere Sunday on HBO. Until then, here is the latest trailer:

The Challenge: Rivals, Week 5

Spoiler alert: This post includes details from the elimination round. If you haven’t already seen it, you’ve been warned.

It’s interesting how the more I write these blogs, the less enjoyable the challenge has become for me. I’ve spent so much time taking notes and analyzing that the things I’ve always loved about the show has somehow disappeared.

Anyway this week’s show started out like any other – DRAMA. This was a weird episode with lots of twists and turns. Here is how it all went down:

The Challenge – “Against the Current”
Let me start by saying this challenge looks freaking awesome and so much fun; like a ride at an amusement park! I think for the first time this season, this is a legit challenge, but it isn’t scary, just well, challenging.

Teams started out paddling their kayaks upstream as hard as they can, without getting pushed out of the zone. Once out of the zone, the kayak had to be turned around, so teams could then paddle towards the finish line. Calculating the results of this challenge seemed a little tricky to me at first, but basically the time fighting the current was deducted from time spent bobbing the rapids. The team with lowest accumulated time wins the challenge. Players that fell out of the kayak, which was inevitable, had 30 seconds to get back to the boat or they were automatically disqualified. This week the girls faced elimination; guys had $2,000 up for grabs. Since Johnny & Tyler won the last challenge, they get to pick order and obviously put CT & Adam first.
