Dexter Recap: “Sin of Omission”

Warning: Spoilers!

First, I want to start this post by acknowledging that Dexter got picked up for not one, but TWO more seasons! Of course that probably also means that no one close to him will figure out his secret for at least two more years.

This week’s episode started with Dexter trying to get back on his sister’s good side after she gave him one day off and he took five. She forgave him quickly but said it was because she needed his help with the Doomsday Killer case. They figured out that Gellar was working with a former student, which was a detail Dexter wanted to keep to himself. So to speed up his plan to kill Gellar, Dexter paid Travis a visit at work. Travis told him more information than I expected him to, but what he didn’t do was agree to help Dexter find Gellar. Later on, though, Dexter followed him to a diner and used a passage from the Bible to convince him to help. Travis said he wanted to get his sister safe first, though.

Dexter Recaps: “Just Let Go” and “Nebraska”

Warning: Spoilers

First and foremost, I’m sorry I missed writing a recap last week. I’m sure that was more difficult for me than it was for you. 🙂 But don’t worry – I’ve seen both episodes and am ready to discuss!

Last week was a doozy! I imagine if I had watched it on time and had the week to really think about what it could mean, I would’ve been much more shocked and confused. Still, though, a lot went down.

Brother Sam didn’t survive his shooting, unfortunately. I wasn’t quite done with his character, so I’m sad to see him go. He came out of his coma just long enough to confirm what Dexter already knew – Nick is the one who shot him. If you remember, Brother Sam had recently baptized Nick in the ocean and taken him in. Sam asked Dexter to pass a message to Nick saying he forgives him. Sam told Dexter he knows about his darkness but can see that there’s light in him as well and asked that he use that. I wonder if this means that he knows what Dexter does in his spare time…

Dexter Recap: “The Angel of Death”

Warning: Spoilers

Travis’ identity is no longer a secret – to Dexter, at least. After spotting him in the crowd at the murder scene last week and discovering a specific type of adhesive on the angel wings left on the victim, Dexter was able to figure out where Travis works. He works as an art restorer at a local museum, and Dexter was able to find his name on the museum’s website. Dexter looked Travis up and saw that he has no criminal history and not so much as a speeding ticket to his name. But, after searching his apartment, he discovered that Travis is definitely the Doomsday Killer.

Dexter Recap: “A Horse of a Different Color”

Warning: Spoilers!

The murder scene involving horses that has been teased every week this season was finally front and center this week. It looks like Deb hired the transfer detective from Chicago who she interviewed last week because he was at the crime scene and had a good theory about the meaning behind the theatrical set-up. It was a four horsemen of the apocalypse thing, which ultimately led the team to their prime suspect, Professor Gellar. They also found slips of paper both of the victims with numbers on them, supposedly counting down to the end of the world.

Dexter Recap: “Smokey and the Bandit”

Warning: Spoilers

Deb started her job as lieutenant, and her first order of business was to find a detective to replace her. LaGuerta gave her two cents on who they should hire without really letting Deb have an opinion. I was glad to see Batista is still being supportive of Deb’s new role, especially when he called her to tell her not to let LaGuerta shove ideas down her throat. That woman is seriously vile and I’m not sure I could dislike her any more if I tried.

Batista’s supportive moment came after Quinn was dropped off late to a crime scene by a woman whose classiness was debatable. After Batista learned that Quinn and Deb broke up, Quinn called him Mrs. LaGuerta and told him he’s too nice and allows people to walk all over him – including Deb who stole his job. This worried me because while Batista said it wasn’t his job to begin with, I was afraid he might let that get into his head and start hating Deb, especially since he almost punched Quinn in the face. So far that hasn’t happened, though.

Dexter Recap: “Once Upon a Time”

Warning: Spoilers

This week, we met Brother Sam (played by guest star, Mos), we saw more of Travis’ creepiness, Deb had two very surprising offers and we got our weekly fix of baby Harrison!

After drawing religious conclusions from last week’s murder victim, Miami Metro brought Brother Sam in for questioning. He’s an ex-con who owns a car shop staffed with other ex-cons because he believes in second chances. Dexter, not entirely convinced, decided to do some investigating of his own. He drove into a dumpster so he could go to the shop and get an estimate for the damage/chat up Brother Sam. Later that night, he followed Brother Sam to a house, heard a gunshot and watched Sam put a body in his trunk. Dexter followed him back to the body shop where a dog looked ready to eat his face before Sam saw him. Always quick to think on his feet, Dexter said he was there to get something he left in his car. It turns out that guy in Sam’s trunk wasn’t dead, and the shot was aimed at Sam. Some thugs came by to pick up their friend (the one from the trunk), but Dexter beat one up and threatened the rest by saying he’s with Miami Metro. I’m beginning to think Dexter and Brother Sam might become friends this season. But, to be fair, Dexter was also friends with Miguel, Trinity and Jordan Chase, and that didn’t end well for any of them.

Season Premiere: Dexter

Warning: Spoilers!

Dexter is finally back! And it only took 293 days (not that I’ve been counting…). Season 6 jumped ahead a year, so Lumen is long gone, Deb and Quinn are still going strong, Harrison is getting ready for preschool and Dexter is on a roll with his killing.

LaGuerta and Batista are officially divorced but seem to be on good terms, as she got promoted to Captain and plans to recommend him for her Lieutenant position. The fact that he thinks his promotion is a given pretty much tells me it’s not going to happen. Masuka was convinced LaGuerta and Deputy Chief Matthews were having an affair, but in reality she secured her new position by blackmailing him. I think it’s safe to say LaGuerta hasn’t really earned anything she’s gotten in her career – after all, she only became Lieutenant because Dokes kept a secret. But I digress…
