Golden Globe Awards: The Fashions

There’s nothing like writing a post about all the fabulous (and not so fabulous) fashions at an award show a good two weeks after the fact! I know we’ve been slacking pretty bad with out updates (and we had been doing so well for so long!), but we’re going to do better. I promise! And so I’ll start with some backtracking ahead of tonight’s SAG Awards, where hopefully the dresses will be even better than the Golden Globes!

Let’s start with the positives. These were my five favorite dresses of the evening, in no particular order.

Paula Patton: I know I said “in no particular order,” but I think this one might have been my favorite of the night. I don’t generally like mermaid dresses at all, but for some reason I thought this was perfect. And I really loved the bright yellow – it looked great on her!

Charlize Theron: I liked how this dress was different, but not too crazy. I loved the giant bow, which is usually something I don’t go for.

Emma Stone: I don’t know what it is about this girl, but I just love her. This dress was beautiful – the style was great and I loved the two different colors.

Natalie Portman: This dress was pretty simple, but I thought it was a great choice. I really liked the hot pink with the little bit of red at the top. It made it just a little more interesting than if it had been one color.

Claire Danes: It took me a second to warm up to this, but then I quickly decided I loved it. I thought it looked really nice on her, and the back was fantastic.

Honorable Mention: Zooey Deschanel: I know a lot of people who didn’t care for this dress, but I really liked it. I loved the brightness of the green and thought the dress looked really great on her. I also liked her tuxedo-painted nails – it added a very cute touch to her dressy evening. I will say, however, that her hair was doing nothing for me. Zooey usually has beautiful hair; I’m not sure what her stylist was thinking with this hairdo. It was the only downfall to an otherwise great look.

Now for the top five dresses I could’ve done without (again, in no particular order).

Piper Perabo: I have no idea what was going on with this dress. It was a little bit see-through, and it vaguely reminded me of the weird material that Lady Gaga’s outfit was made out of when she came out of her egg at the Grammys. I like Piper, so hopefully her next dress will make up for this one.

Reese Witherspoon: Ok, I know this choice is controversial. She made several best dressed lists, but I was not a fan of her dress at all. I think it was mostly the bust region of the dress – I just don’t like that style. I tried to like the dress, especially after hearing so many people praise it, but it just wasn’t happening for me.

Lea Michele: Yikes. She’s usually so well dressed at these shows that I found this choice to be shocking. I’m also pretty tired of her ridiculous red carpet poses, but that’s a story for another time. I hope at the SAG’s she goes back to her usual classier look.

Nicole Kidman: Another controversial one, I imagine, as she made a lot of best dressed lists as well. I didn’t like the studded look, and I’m also not a fan of dresses that are so narrow all the way down to the feet. I think it would’ve been a lot better if it flared out just a bit.

Rooney Mara: Again, I wanted to like this dress but I found it disappointing. I think my problem with it was that she had been wearing so many beautiful dresses on the press tour for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo that I was just expecting better from her. It wasn’t awful, I suppose, but it definitely wasn’t a favorite of mine.

As I mentioned, and as I’m sure you know, the SAG Awards are tonight. I’m excited to see what everyone is wearing, and hopefully this time it won’t take me two weeks to share my opinions with you. Who knows, maybe I’ll even comment on some winners! 🙂

Let me know what you’ve thought about the award show fashions so far!
